He’s Had Enough is a brilliant two-year-old by record-breaking Leading Sire Tapit, out of a stakes winning and multiple graded stakes producing mare, from the family of such as major sires Arch and Green Desert, and Breeders’ Cup Classic (gr. I) victor, Bayern. Officially rated one of the top three two-year-olds of his crop, He’s Had Enough was a winner sprinting on his debut, and came within inches of capturing the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile (gr. I).
Tapit has enjoyed remarkable success when crossed over mares from the Storm Cat branch of the Northern Dancer. He has two graded stakes winners out of mares by Storm Cat himself; his Champion Two-Year-Old colt Hansen is out of a mare by Sir Cat; he has grade one winner Careless Jewel out of a mare by Hennessy (sire of Johannesburg, Henny Hughes and Cactus Ridge; grandsire of Scat Daddy); grade one winner Tell a Kelly out of a mare by Tabasco Cat; as well as stakes winners by Menifee (by Harlan, also sire of Harlan’s Holiday) and Giant’s Causeway (a brother to Freud, and sire of First Samurai). Other sources of Storm Cat that could be tried include Tale of the Cat (sire of Lion Heart), Forest Wildcat (sire of Wildcat Heir and D’Wildcat), Forestry (sire of Discreet Cat), Stormy Atlantic, Bernstein, Bluegrass Cat, Pure Prize, Storm Boot, Stormin Fever, Sea of Secrets, With Distinction (who gives an interesting pattern) and Yankee Gentleman.
Storm Cat is by Storm Bird, a close relative to Nijnsky II, and Tapit has also enjoyed success with that strain. Multiple grade one winner Tapitsfly is out of a mare by Marlin (by Sword Dancer), there is also a Tapit stakes winner out of a mare by Shadeed (sire of Alydeed). It could also be worth introducing Nijinsky II through Royal Academy, Baldski (sire of Appealing Skier) and Sky Classic. A mating with a mare by Deputy Minister came Breeders’ Cup Mile (gr. I) winner Tapizar, suggesting mares by such as Touch Gold, Awesome Again, Dehere, Silver Deputy, Salt Lake, French Deputy and Forest Camp. Tapit is also sire of a graded stakes winner out of a mare by Regal Classic, a son of Deputy Minister’s sire, Vice Regent. Tapit has two stakes winners, including grade one scorer Laragh, out of a mare by El Prado (sire of Medaglia d’Oro, Kitten’s Joy and Artie Schiller). From Danzig line mares, Tapit has sired stakes winners from daughters of Danzig Connection and Boundary, and there are numerous sources of this strain, including Anabaa, Belong to Me, Chief’s Crown, Dayjur, Exchange Rate, Honor Grades, Langfuhr, Lost Soldier, War Chant and Hard Spun and War Front (who gives a particularly interesting mating). From the Icecapade branch of Northern Dancer’s sire, Nearctic, Tapit has two graded stakes winners, including grade one scorer Joyful Victory, out of mares by Wild Again, and a stakes winner out of a mare by that horse’s son, Wild Rush. This suggests trying mares by other sons of Wild Again, including Offlee Wild, Vicar, Milwaukee Brew and Wild Event.
Tapit has shown an affinity for certain branches of the Mr. Prospector line. From the Gone West branch, in addition to a stakes winner out of a mare by that horse himself, Tapit has grade one winner Zazu and grade two winner Flashback out of a mare by Mr. Greeley, and graded stakes winner Bandbox out of a mare by Grand Slam, indicating mares by Speightstown, Elusive Quality, Proud Citizen, Double Honor, Dance Master and Zamindar might work.
Tapit’s grade one winners Dance Card and Constitution are respectively out of mares by Editor’s Note and Distorted Humor, both by Forty Niner, whose son Banker’s Gold is also broodmare sire of a Tapit stakes winner. Forty Nine can also be found through Coronado’s Quest, End Sweep, Tactical Advantage, Gold Fever, Gold Case, Jules, Roar, Twining, West Acre, Trippi and Peace Rules). Tapit is sire of grade one winner Teen Pauline from a daughter of Carson City (sire of City Zip, Cuvee, Five Star Day, Hear No Evil, Lord Carson, Good and Tough and Flying Chevron). Tapit’s graded scorer
Ring Weekend is out of a mare by Cryptoclearance, and he also has a stakes winner out of a mare by a son of that horse, which would suggest trying mares by Victory Gallop and Candy Ride. From mares by Woodman, Tapit has sired two stakes winners, including graded stakes scorer Headache, and it might be worth considering mares descending from Seeking the Gold – bred on the same cross as Woodman – who is available through Petionville and Mutakddim and Cape Town (both giving inbreeding to Seattle Slew).
Tapit’s third dam, Moon Glitter, is a stakes winning sister to the important sire, Relaunch, and Tapit has a stakes winner out of a mare by Relaunch, a stakes winner out of a mare by that horse’s son, Honour and Glory, and a stakes winner out of a mare by his grandson, Bertrando. Relaunch can also be found through Put It Back, Officer, Tiznow, Skywalker, Slew Gin Fizz, and Waquoit. Tapit also has a stakes winner out of Glitterman, who is out of Moon Glitter, and so a half-brother to the granddam of Tapit.
Tapit graded stakes winner Honorable Dillon is out of a mare by Shy Groom, a son of Blushing Groom, and from the same sire line, he has stakes winning and grade one placed Rattlesnake Bridge from a mare by Cherokee Run (sire of Kafwain and Yonaguska). It may also be worth introducing Blushing Groom through Rahy or Mt. Livermore (sire of Orientate, Housebuster and Peaks and Valleys). Tapit has also sired the brilliant Untapable out of a mare by Prized (by Kris S., from the Roberto line); classic winner Tonalist (from a daughter of Pleasant Colony); grade one winner Testa Matta out of a mare by Concern (by Broad Brush); three stakes winners, including graded scorer Tapiture, out of mares by Olympio, whose female line has also worked well for Tapit; and graded winner Trappe Shot out of a mare by Private Account. We can also mention that he has three stakes winners out of mares from his own Seattle Slew line, from daughters of Boston Harbor (by Capote) and Ikari.
