The $77,500 Step Nicely Stakes going one mile over the main track at Belmont Park saw REPENT 3-year-olds bookend the trifecta. FAMOUS PATRIOT become his sire's SIXTH Stakes Winner and his stakes winnings son CHECK IT TWICE bred by Cloverleaf Farms II and co-owned made his seasonal debut finishing third.
FAMOUS PATRIOT stalked two lengths of the early lead set by previously undefeated multiple stakes winner Tin Cup Chalice. His time to move came midway around the turn and out to the four path he moved for clear sailing. He was asked for his best at the top of the stretch and he caught the leader as the two reached the eighth pole. Digging in, he inched away from his stubborn rival late to win by a neck.
CHECK IT TWICE got a similar trip as the winner and was finding his best stride in the final furlong. He finished less than a length away from his cropmate.
FAMOUS PATRIOT has four wins and three thirds in eight career starts and he has earned $149,310. Bred in Florida, he is the first foal produced by the winning Beau Genius mare, Agnes Rose. He races for Patriot Stables and he is trained Timothy Hills.
